How many porta potties does your event need?

Use 50, 40 or 30 guests per unit, then adjust. Here's the math.

Step 1

Start with guests per unit

• Up to 4 hours: 1 unit per 50 guests
• 4 to 8 hours: 1 per 40
• Over 8 hours: 1 per 30
• Always round up

Step 2

Add for alcohol

Add 1 unit for every 4 units when drinks are served, minimum 1. 5 units become 7.

Step 3

Add sinks for food

Plan 1 hand-wash station for every 2 toilets when food is served.

Worked example

150 guests, 5 hours, a bar

150 ÷ 40 = 4 units. Add 1 for alcohol = 5 units, plus 3 hand-wash stations. Make 1 unit wheelchair-accessible.
