How do the porta potty types compare?
Porta potty types compare on six points: flushing, hand washing, wheelchair access, water and power needs, space and limits. Standard units need nothing. Deluxe units carry their own water. Restroom trailers need a 110-volt outlet, a hose and level ground.
| Unit | Best for | Flushing | Hand washing | Wheelchair access | Water / power | Space | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard porta potty | Jobsites, parties, remodels | No (holding tank) | Hand sanitizer | No (24 in door) | None | About 4 × 4 ft | Basic look; not for dressy events |
| Deluxe flushing unit | Weddings, showers, nicer parties | Yes, foot pump | Sink inside | No | None (own tank) | About 4 × 4 ft | Fewer uses per tank than a standard unit |
| Wheelchair-accessible unit | Public events, guests with mobility needs | No | Hand sanitizer | Yes, ground-level floor | None | About 5.2 × 5.2 ft + ramp-free approach | Needs a level, firm pad and a wide path |
| Hand-wash station | Food service, crews | — | 2 or 4 foot-pump sinks | Reachable from a seat on most models | None (own tank) | About 2 × 2 ft | Not a toilet; pair with units |
| Restroom trailer | Weddings, galas, offices | Yes, real toilets | Sinks, mirrors | Steps; not wheelchair-accessible | 110 V outlet + water hose | Driveway or lot, 20–30 ft long | Needs level ground, water and power |
Which unit is wrong for which job?
A restroom trailer is wrong for a dirt pad with no power. A standard unit is wrong for a wheelchair user. A deluxe unit is wrong for a 500-person crowd, because its fresh-water tank runs out. A hand-wash station alone is never a toilet.
- Dirt pad, no power: standard or deluxe units, not a trailer.
- Guest in a wheelchair: wheelchair-accessible unit, not a trailer (steps).
- Formal wedding with hookups: trailer or deluxe units.
- Big public crowd: standard units in clusters + accessible units + sinks.
- Food service: always add hand-wash stations.
What are the exact unit sizes?
Exact unit sizes from the manufacturer spec sheets: the PolyJohn PJN3 standard unit is 43.5 inches wide, the Fleet flushing unit is 47 inches wide, and the Comfort XL accessible unit is 62 inches square. Use width to check gates: add at least 4 inches for the crew.
| Model | W × D × H | Weight | Tank |

| PolyJohn Fleet Fresh Flush | 47 × 48 × 91 in | 243 lb | 60 gal waste, 20 gal fresh |
| PolyJohn Comfort XL | 62 × 62 × 91 in | 240 lb | 33 gal waste |

Questions renters ask before they book
Our dispatchers hear these 6 questions often, including “Which unit do I need?” and “Do your porta potties have sinks in them?” The answers are written the way we explain them on calls. Starting prices appear only here, and your itemized quote confirms the exact total.
Which unit do I need?
Most backyard parties and jobsites need a standard unit. Pick a deluxe flushing unit or restroom trailer for weddings and dressy events. Add a wheelchair-accessible unit for guests who use a wheelchair or walker. Add a hand-wash station when food is served. Our comparison table lists the trade-offs.
Do your porta potties have sinks in them?
Standard units have a hand sanitizer dispenser but no sink. Deluxe flushing units have a foot-pump sink inside. For a group, a separate 2-station or 4-station hand-wash sink is often the better buy because guests do not wait inside the stall to wash.
I have a family member in a wheelchair. Can she use a standard unit?
No. A standard unit door is only about 24 inches wide. Rent a wheelchair-accessible unit. It has a ground-level floor, a wide door, grab rails and room for a 60-inch turning circle.
Does the flushing unit need my water? I'm on a well.
No. Our deluxe flushing unit has its own fresh-water tank that feeds the foot-pump flush and sink, so it never touches your well or septic. Restroom trailers are different. Trailers need a hose hookup or a water tank we supply.
What hookups does a restroom trailer need?
A 2-stall restroom trailer needs a standard 110-volt outdoor outlet on its own circuit and a garden-hose water connection within about 50 feet. No hookups on site? We can quote a generator and fresh-water tank.
Will it fit through my side gate?
A standard unit is 43.5 inches wide, so your gate needs at least a 48-inch clear opening plus room for two crew members. A wheelchair-accessible unit is 62 inches wide and usually goes through a driveway, not a side gate.
